ABOUT MATT

Growing up a in musical household, Matt found a love for music and production very early in his life. As the son of a master pianist and former Kurzweil product designer, Matt was blessed with enthusiastic parents who supported the arts as a career and helped to provide the training and resources necessary for such a path. Matt was also very fortunate to receive an education in a school system renowned for its music and arts programs. In addition to private classical instruction, Matt was able to participate in one the the regions top marching and concert programs at Irmo High School in Columbia, South Carolina. It was there that he would experience winning a 5A state championship medal, perform as a finalist in several regional and national Bands of America sanctioned competitions, and even march in a presidential inauguration parade.  Matt was also a member of the 1995 South Carolina All State Jazz Ensemble.

Around the turn of the millennium,  as the PC was emerging as a new household standard and the internet was becoming more accessible, Matt's interests turned to the developing trend of Digital Audio Workstation and Virtual Studio Technology software that was now evolving very quickly.   While he saw this as a way to produce his own music, he had only a little previous experience with audio.  So Matt went to work for local production company ACS Sound and Lighting based in Columbia, SC in an effort to learn all the basics. He would spend the next year training and working in various disciplines such as theater and stage production, corporate A/V, press conferences, sporting events, house of worship production, and audio installation.

In the summer of 2001, Matt moved to Myrtle Beach to take a job with the House of Blues.  It was here that he would discover his passion for front of house and monitor audio engineering.  As well, Matt was immediately presented with the opportunity to work with countless major label artists as well as some of the best up and coming talent in the country. He would work for 3 years as the full time house engineer. During that time, Matt also performed as a drummer and percussionist for various house events.

He began his full time career in musical theater in the spring of 2004.  He would spend the next 8 years working for Gilmore Entertainment (the Carolina Opry & Tribute the Concert) as an engineer and performing as a drummer.  In addition, Matt continued to work part time with the House of Blues, teach music privately and freelance in audio production and music performance.  In May of 2014,  Matt joined the cast of Legends in Concert Myrtle Beach and would spend the next 5 years performing as the drummer in the house band.   He also wrote and arranged show content as well as recorded and mixed audio for video post-production.

Matt is currently an AV field engineer and project manager with Premiere Communications & Consulting in Myrtle Beach.  He continues to perform as a live and studio session drummer part time and offers his services in live audio mixing, recording, editing and mastering, training in live production, stage management & logistics, event planning & project coordination, live audio integration for Windows & networking environments, training in percussion performance & basic music theory, and product/service presentation.
